Istanbul Airport Named Once Again Europe’s Busiest Air Cargo Hub

Istanbul Airport named Europe’s busiest air cargo center according to new ACI report 


Istanbul Airport, Turkey’s largest airport, was named as Europe’s busiest air cargo hub according to the ACI Europe’s 2024 Annual Traffic Report. 

Istanbul handled 1.97 million tons of cargo last year, up from 40% in 2023, making it the busiest cargo airport in Europe in 2024. In second place, was Frankfurt Airport, which handled 1.95 million tons of cargo, with Paris Charles De Gaulle coming in third place, handling around 1.87 million tons of cargo. 

Making up the rest of the top six was London Heathrow Airport (1.53 million tons), Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (1.49 million tons) and Leipzig with 1.38 million tons. 

Built in 2018 on the Black Sea coast of Istanbul, it has grown to become a major airport, serving more than 80 million passengers annually. The airport has been voted the most busy air hub for three years in a row by Eurocontrol based on average daily flights.
