More flights to Beirut and Tel Aviv cancelled following strikes on Lebanon
Major airlines including Emirates, British Airways, and Etihad Airways have cancelled or suspended flights to and from Beirut, following a warning by the European Commission and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), to not operate flights in and out of Lebanese and Israeli airspace.
The move is in response to a series of Israeli military strikes against targets throughout Lebanon in recent days.
Emirates cancelled all flights to and from Beirut until 1st October and Etihad Airways cancelled all daily flights until 30th September.
Meanwhile, other airlines including British Airways and Qatar Airways have suspended flights to Beirut.
In the days following the strikes, flights out of Beirut have sold out, as civilians scramble to leave the city.
The UK, US and French Governments have all advised their citizens to leave the country immediately.
The EASA said it will review its warning against airlines operating in the region on the 31st of October, adding, in comments that were picked up by various news reports:
“An overall intensification of air strikes and degradation in the security situation has been noted, impacting the safety of airspace over Israel and Lebanon.
We are closely monitoring the situation to assess if risks to EU aircraft operators are increasing or decreasing.”
